Carnal Knowledge The Criterion 4K Blu-ray (Rental)

Disc 1 (the 4K UHD disc) contains the film in 4K UHD, presented in Dolby Vision HDR. Arriving amid the sexual revolution and the social turmoil of the early 1970s, Mike Nichols's film — written by Jules Feiffer — became a defining portrait of changing American attitudes. The drama follows two college friends (Jack Nicholson and Art Garfunkel) across more than twenty years, as their easygoing chauvinism gradually curdles into something uglier. Candice Bergen, Ann-Margret, Rita Moreno, Carol Kane, and Cynthia O'Neal play the women who endure the pair's insecure posing and see straight through it. A film once controversial enough to reach the Supreme Court in an obscenity case, it still startles with its frank examination of postwar masculinity.
