From a script by the master architect of giallo, Ernesto Gastaldi (THE STRANGE VICE OF MRS. WARDH, ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK, DEATH WALKS ON HIGH HEELS), comes genre director Giuliano Carnimeo's sexually-charged giallo debut (credited as Anthony Ascott), presented here, for the first time, in 4K ultra-high definition. The gruesome murders of two young women send a shockwave of fear through the tenants of a high-rise apartment building. For photo models Jennifer and Marylin, it presents a welcome opportunity to move in together in one of the emptied flats. But the aura of terror catches up with everyone and soon, Jennifer feels like prey, stalked and targeted by the gloved killer. As her paranoia grows, Jennifer suspects everyone--her fanatic ex-husband, her spinster neighbor, the lesbian from down the hall, and even her boyfriend. But she is determined to stay one step ahead of the depraved killer! Starring giallo's ultimate scream queen, Edwige Fenech (STRIP NUDE FOR YOUR KILLER, HOSTEL: PART II), alongside George Hilton (THE STRANGE VICE OF MRS. WARDH, THE CASE OF THE SCORPION'S TAIL) in their third collaboration together, "The Case of the Bloody Iris" is "pure giallo fun" (Mondo Digital). With its beautiful cinematography masterfully contrasted by its brutal violence, the film is every bit as exploitative and blood-spattered as it is sultry and salacious, turning it into "a luxuriant banquet of sumptuous visuals, sinister chills, and otherworldly beauty" (Deadshed). Celluloid Dreams is proud to present this newly scanned version, restored in 4K from the original camera negatives. It is the version of "The Case of the Bloody Iris" you've been dying to see. This collection features three mood-drenched classics of noir: DARK CITY (1950) – A Tense, Tough Drama of Underworld Violence and Revenge! After losing his company’s $5,000 cashier’s check in a crooked card game, a stranger in Chicago commits suicide. The other gamblers—including Danny Haley, played by steely screen legend Charlton Heston (Touch of Evil) in his Hollywood debut—worry about the dangers of cashing the check, but this soon becomes the least of their concerns when the head of the group is found hanged. Police Captain Garvey (Dean Jagger, Pursued) concludes the hanging to be a case of homicide and discovers that the stranger had a mentally deranged brother (Mike Mazurki, Murder, My Sweet) who is out for vengeance. Fran (Lizabeth Scott, Pitfall), a torch singer who is desperately in love with Danny, begs him to run away with her before it’s too late. This stunningly cynical morality tale also features the stars of TV’s Dragnet 1967, Jack Webb and Harry Morgan, as Danny’s gambling partners. Directed by the dynamic Willam Dieterle (Portrait of Jennie, Rope of Sand) and bathed in black-and-white by cinematographer Victor Milner (The General Died at Dawn). NO MAN OF HER OWN (1950) – Every Door Closed Against Her...A Woman Faces the Age-Old Problem of Her Sex! The incandescent Barbara Stanwyck (Double Indemnity, The Strange Love of Martha Ivers) shines as a woman torn between a comfortable lie and the painful truth in this heart-wrenching noir classic. Helen Ferguson (Stanwyck), penniless, pregnant and dumped by her slimy boyfriend Steve (Lyle Bettger, Union Station), assumes the identity of a pregnant woman who was killed in a train crash. Eventually Helen’s sordid past catches up to her when Steve arrives demanding money to keep her true identity a secret from the man who loves her (John Lund, Night Has a Thousand Eyes). Gorgeously shot by cinematographer Daniel L. Fapp (The Big Clock, The Great Escape) and directed by Hollywood ace Mitchell Leisen (Death Takes a Holiday, Murder at the Vanities), this pitch-black masterpiece of harrowing melodrama was adapted from the book I Married a Dead Man by crime-writing king Cornell Woolrich (The Chase, Rear Window). BEWARE, MY LOVELY (1952) – Trapped by a Man Beyond Control! Screen heavyweights Ida Lupino (Woman in Hiding) and Robert Ryan (Odds Against Tomorrow) square off in this stylish and atmospheric thriller. Wealthy widow Helen Gordon (Lupino) hires drifter Howard Wilton (Ryan) as a handyman to do chores around her rambling mansion. What she doesn’t know: Howard Wilton is insane. One of the most personal films by the prolific Hong Kong auteur Johnnie To is a thrilling love letter to both the cinema of Akira Kurosawa and the art and philosophy of judo. Amid the neon-drenched nightclubs and gambling dens of Hong Kong’s nocturnal underworld, the fates of three wandering souls—a former judo champion now barely scraping by as an alcoholic bar owner (Louis Koo), a young fighter (Aaron Kwok) intent on challenging him, and a singer (Cherrie Ying) chasing dreams of stardom—collide in an operatic explosion of human pain, ambition, perseverance, and redemption. Paying offbeat homage to Kurosawa’s debut feature, Sanshiro Sugata, To scrambles wild comedy, flights of lyrical surrealism, and rousing martial-arts action into what is ultimately a disarmingly touching ode to the healing power of friendship. DIRECTOR-APPROVED BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES 4K digital restoration, with 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack Interview from 2004 with director Johnnie To New interviews with coscreenwriter Yau Nai-hoi, composer Peter Kam, and film scholars David Bordwell and Caroline Guo Short making-of documentary from 2004 featuring To and actors Louis Koo, Aaron Kwok, Cherrie Ying, and Tony Leung Ka-fai Trailer New English subtitle translation PLUS: An essay by film critic Sean Gilman

It’s a spoof to end all spoofs as comedy legend Marty Feldman (Young Frankenstein) shatters the Gary Cooper/French Foreign Legion classic in The Last Remake of Beau Geste. Set in England and Morocco in 1906, Feldman’s “remake” mocks all the do-or-die extravaganzas we’ve known and loved as he portrays Digby, identical twin brother to Michael York’s (The Island of Dr. Moreau) stalwart Beau Geste. Joining in the desert lunacy are a vast array of stars including Peter Ustinov (Death on the Nile), Terry-Thomas (Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies), Ann-Margret (52 Pick-Up) as the boys’ seductive stepmother and James Earl Jones (Star Wars) as Sheik Abdul the Disgusting. Feldman co-wrote, stars and makes his outrageous directorial debut with this zany comedy which, as the title suggests, threatens to end the whole romance-adventure genre once and for all. The hilarious cast also includes Trevor Howard (Kidnapped), Henry Gibson (The Long Goodbye), Roy Kinnear (How I Won the War), Spike Milligan (The Bed Sitting Room), Avery Schreiber (Scavenger Hunt) and Hugh Griffith (Kind Hearts and Coronets). Special Features: • NEW Audio Commentary by "Sledge Hammer" Creator and Feldman Friend Alan Spencer • NEW Audio Commentary by Entertainment Journalist and Author Bryan Reesman • NEW Audio Interview with Co-Star Michael York • TRAILERS FROM HELL with Alan Spencer • 4 Radio Spots • Image Galleries • Theatrical Trailer • Dual-Layered BD50 Disc • Optional English Subtitles

Having blazed a trail for African filmmakers to tell their own stories on-screen, Senegalese auteur Ousmane Sembène took his career-long project—to unlock cinema’s potential as a vehicle for social change—in increasingly urgent and provocative directions in the 1970s. Searing critiques of colonialism, political corruption, patriarchal arrogance, and religious indoctrination, his three features from this decade—the radical call to resistance Emitaï, the wickedly subversive satire Xala, and the controversial historical epic Ceddo—confirmed his standing as a fearless truth-teller for whom the camera was the ultimate weapon in the fight against oppression in all its forms. THREE-BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES New 4K digital restorations of all three films, with uncompressed monaural soundtracks New conversation between Mahen Bonetti, founder and executive director of the African Film Festival, and writer Amy Sall The Making of “Ceddo,” a 1981 documentary by Paulin Soumanou Vieyra New English subtitle translations PLUS: An essay by film scholar Yasmina Price EMITAÏ With revolutionary outrage, Ousmane Sembène chronicles a period during World War II when French colonial forces in Senegal conscripted young men of the Diola people and attempted to seize rice stores for soldiers back in Europe. As the tribe’s patriarchal leaders pray and make sacrifices to their gods, the women in the community refuse to yield their harvests, incurring the French army’s wrath. With a deep understanding of the oppressive forces that have shaped Senegalese history, Emitaï explores the strains that colonialism places upon cultural traditions and, in the process, discovers a people’s hidden reserves of rebellion and dignity. XALA An adaptation of Ousmane Sembène’s own 1973 novel, Xala is a hilarious, caustic satire of political corruption under an inept patriarchy. On the night of his wedding to his third bride, government official El Hadji (Thierno Leye) is rendered impotent and begins to suspect that one of his other wives has placed a curse on him. After seeking a cure from a local marabout, El Hadji must face the possibility that he deserves the infliction for his part in embezzling public funds and for helping to keep Senegal under French control. Adeptly combining elements of African folklore and popular cinema, Sembène indicts the hubris, entitlement, and opportunism of male authority figures. CEDDO In precolonial Senegal, members of the Ceddo (or “outsiders”) kidnap Princess Dior Yacine (Tabata Ndiaye) after her father, the king, pledges loyalty to an ascendant Islamic faction that plans to convert the entire clan to its faith. Attempts to recapture her fail, provoking further division and eventual war between the animistic Ceddo and the fundamentalist Muslims, with Christian missionaries and slave traders from Europe also playing a role in the conflict. Banned in Senegal upon its release, Ceddo is an ambitious, multilayered epic that explores the combustible tensions among ancient tradition, religious colonization, political expediency, and individual freedom.

Steeped in sadomasochism and lushly photographed in the vivid hues for which the director is known, Mario Bava’s The Whip and the Body is a Gothic thriller that far surpasses the AIP Edgar Allan Poe films that it was intended to emulate. Horror legend Christopher Lee (Dracula, The Wicker Man, House of the Long Shadows) stars as Kurt Menliff, the sadistic son of a wealthy Count, who returns to the family castle, much to the dismay of his family, their servants, and the beautiful woman with whom he shares a fondness for the lash (Daliah Lavi, The Silencers, The High Commissioner). When Kurt is found murdered, it brings no peace to those who had feared him, as his vengeful spirit cannot be contained by the grave, and he returns to torment those unfortunate enough to remain within Menliff Manor. The most deliriously romantic horror picture ever made, The Whip and the Body is a decadent masterpiece by the bloody brilliant Bava (Black Sunday, Black Sabbath, Kill, Baby…Kill!). Special Features: • 2023 4K Scan and 2K Restoration by 88 Films • Audio Commentary by Tim Lucas, Author of Mario Bava: All the Colors of the Dark • Includes Both Original Italian and English Dub Audio Options with Optional English Subtitles • Theatrical Trailer
