In his American feature-film debut, Peter Lorre turns in one of his creepiest performances as a renowned plastic surgeon whose sadistic obsession with an actress drove him over the edge of sanity. Dr. Gogol (Lorre) is in love with his Yvonne Orlac (Frances Drake), an actress whose appearance in a Grand Guignol-like horror theater has mesmerized him. She quits the theater to travel with her concert-pianist husband. Stephen (Colin Clive), enraging Gogol. But when Stephen's hands are crushed in a train accident, Yvonne turns to Gogol as a last resort. Motivated by sadistic intentions, Gogol secretly replaces Stephen's hands with those of a guillotined murderer, hoping that the operation will send Yvonne rushing into his arms as the murderer's hands take on a life of their own. Mad Love is one of the most chilling horror stories every put on screen, lending a macabre twist on themes of requited love and jealously.

This collection includes three classic comedies starring screen legend Tony Curtis. THE PERFECT FURLOUGH (1958) From Blake Edwards, the acclaimed director of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Pink Panther, A Shot in the Dark, The Great Race, The Party and Victor Victoria, comes this romantic comedy starring screen legends Tony Curtis (The Great Impostor) and Janet Leigh (The Vikings). In The Perfect Furlough, the fun begins when the Army’s top brass meet to discuss the morale problems occurring at an outpost in the remote Arctic. It seems that the 104 bachelors stationed there for the past seven months are going utterly stir crazy. Military psychologist Lieutenant Vicki Loren (Leigh) proposes a solution: one lucky guy will receive a perfect furlough, complete with exotic destinations and a beautiful movie star. Much to the psychologist’s chagrin, a scheming corporal (Curtis) with a personnel file that reads like a stag movie rigs the raffle and wins the trip. So, it’s off to Paris for three weeks of fun and romance—and constant supervision by Lieutenant Loren and a pack of Hollywood press agents who are fighting to keep both the Army’s and the movie star’s reputations intact. But things get really complicated when the lieutenant finds herself falling for the hot-blooded corporal. Sharply written by Stanley Shapiro (Pillow Talk) and co-starring Keenan Wynn (Dr. Strangelove), Linda Cristal (Mr. Majestyk) and Elaine Stritch (Monster-in-Law). THE GREAT IMPOSTOR (1960) From Robert Mulligan, the outstanding director of To Kill a Mockingbird, Love with the Proper Stranger, Baby the Rain Must Fall, Summer of ’42 and The Nickel Ride, comes this wild account of the world’s greatest big-time masquerader, Ferdinand Waldo Demara Jr. (Tony Curtis, The Perfect Furlough). The incredible but true story tells of how the untrained, uneducated yet brilliant young man assumes the identity of a college professor, Trappist monk, prison warden and surgeon in the Canadian Navy. Always one step ahead of exposure, Demara attempts to outwit and outrun the FBI, the police, a priest and several girlfriends. Mixing suspense with humor, The Great Impostor was beautifully shot by Robert Burks (To Catch a Thief), features a wonderful score by the great Henry Mancini (Charade) and co-stars Karl Malden (Billion Dollar Brain), Edmond O’Brien (The Hitch-Hiker), Arthur O’Connell (Man of the West), Gary Merrill (Witness to Murder), Joan Blackman (Visit to a Small Planet), Raymond Massey (Reap the Wild Wind) and Jeanette Nolan (Macbeth). 40 POUNDS OF TROUBLE (1962) From Norman Jewison, the legendary director of The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!, In the Heat of the Night, The Thomas Crown Affair, Fiddler on the Roof, A Soldier’s Story and Moonstruck, comes this classic comedy starring Tony Curtis (The Great Impostor). After escaping from his greedy ex-wife in California, savvy Lake Tahoe hotel/casino manager Steve McCluskey (Curtis) has had enough of women. His sabbatical is sabotaged, however, when hotel owner Bernie Friedman (Phil Silvers, Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell) orders him to chaperone the venue’s new headliner, Friedman’s beautiful niece Chris (Suzanne Pleshette, Support Your Local Gunfighter). As if that’s not enough, McCluskey inherits a pint-sized problem in young Penny (Claire Wilcox, Wives and Lovers), a five-year-old recently abandoned by her debt-ridden father. Soon charmed by his two charges, he risks crossing the Nevada border to take them to Disneyland. It’s not long before the incognito trio is discovered by his ex’s detectives and a wild chase through the park’s attractions begins. Written by Marion Hargrove (The Music Man) based on the story “Little Miss Marker” and featuring a hilarious cast that includes Larry Storch (TV’s F Troop), Howard Morris (High Anxiety), Stubby Kaye (Guys and Dolls), Mary Murphy (A Man Alone), Edward Andrews (Send Me No Flowers), Karen Steele (Ride Lonesome), Kevin McCarthy (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and Warren Stevens (Madame X). 40 Pounds of Trouble, the first feature film ever to be shot in (and above) Disneyland, is an irresistible romantic comedy and a treat for the whole family. Special Features: -NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian David Del Valle (The Perfect Furlough) -NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian Kat Ellinger (The Great Imposter) -NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historians Kat Ellinger and Mike McPadden (40 Pounds of Trouble) -Theatrical Trailers -Optional English Subtitles

From the mind of Stephen King, the master of horror behind Carrie, The Shining, The Stand and It, comes the terrifying psychological thriller that won the Academy Award for its iconic, bone-shattering performance by Kathy Bates (Dolores Claiborne). After his car crashes in the mountains during a blinding snowstorm, famous novelist Paul Sheldon (James Caan, Thief) is “rescued” from a car crash by Annie Wilkes (Bates), a fan obsessed with the main character in his series of novels. Product Description After changing the face of science fiction cinema forever with Alien and Blade Runner, director Ridley Scott turned his visionary eye to the fantasy genre, teaming with writer William Hjortsberg (Angel Heart) to create a breathtaking cinematic fairytale with one of the screen’s most astonishingly rendered depictions of Evil. In an idyllic, sun-dappled forest, the pure-hearted Jack (Tom Cruise) takes his true love Princess Lili (Mia Sara) to see a pair of unicorns frolicking at the forest’s edge. Little do they know that the Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry, in a remarkable make-up designed by The Thing’s Rob Bottin) has dispatched his minions to capture the unicorns and sever their horns so that he may plunge the world into everlasting night. After Lili and the unicorns are taken prisoner, Jack must team with a group of forest creatures and descend into Darkness’ subterranean lair to face off against the devilish creature before it is too late. Despite a troubled production in which the elaborate full-size forest set was accidentally incinerated and a lengthy post-production that resulted in multiple versions of the film (with competing music scores by Jerry Goldsmith and Tangerine Dream), Legend has since been restored to Scott's original cut and embraced by generations of film fans eager to see a master director’s unique vision of a world beyond our imagination. Marking the moment when the gritty gangster sagas of the 1930s began giving way to the romantic fatalism of 1940s film noir, High Sierra also contains the star-making performance of Humphrey Bogart, who, alongside top-billed Ida Lupino, proved his leading-man mettle with his tough yet tender turn as Roy Earle. A career criminal plagued by his checkered past, Earle longs for a simpler life, but after getting sprung on parole, he falls in with a band of thieves for one last heist in the Sierra Nevada. Directed with characteristic punch by Raoul Walsh—who makes the most of the vertiginous mountain location—Roy and Lupino’s Marie, a fellow outcast also desperate to escape her past, hurtle inexorably toward an unforgettable cliffside climax and a rendezvous with destiny. TWO-BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES • New, restored 4K digital transfer, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack • Colorado Territory, director Raoul Walsh’s 1949 western remake of High Sierra • New conversation on Walsh between film programmer Dave Kehr and critic Farran Smith Nehme • The True Adventures of Raoul Walsh, a 2019 documentary by Marilyn Ann Moss • Curtains for Roy Earle, a 2003 featurette on the making of High Sierra • Bogart: Here’s Looking at You, Kid, a 1997 documentary aired on The South Bank Show • New interview with film and media historian Miriam J. This double-feature disc brings together two of producer Val Lewton's classic RKO horror films, newly restored and remastered. In 1943's The Ghost Ship, Tom Merriam (Russell Wade), the young third mate on a freighter bound for Patagonia, witnesses the murder of a crewman by the ship's captain, Will Stone (Richard Dix). Merriam realizes Stone is going insane, but the rest of the crew won't believe him or that he may be the mad captain's next victim! Boris Karloff reunites with Lewton for a third and final time in 1946's Bedlam, set in 1761 at a London asylum. Karloff gives an unforgettable performance as the doomed overseer who fawns on high-society benefactors while ruling his mentally disturbed inmates with an iron fist. Newly restored from their original nitrate negatives, both showcase Nicolas Musuraca's cinematography under the inspired direction of Mark Robson.

Product Description Writer and director Marjane Satrapi draws a poignant story about a young girl in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, when peoples hopes were dashed as fundamentalists took power. Amazon.com A fascinating and wholly unexpected take on Irans Islamic revolution beginning in the 1970s, Persepolis is an enthralling, animated feature about a spirited young woman who spends her life trying to deal with the consequences of her nations history. Based on an autobiographical comic book by Marjane Satrapi, the story concerns Marji (voiced as a teenager and woman by Chiara Mastroianni), whose natural fire and precociousness are slowly dampened by the rise of religious extremists. Marji grieves over the imprisonment and execution of a beloved uncle, then begrudgingly adapts to ever-tightening rules about dress, social mores, education for women, and expectations about marriage and divorce. Along the way, her grandmother (Danielle Darrieux) and mother (Catherine Deneuve) help keep Marji grounded during her rebellious teens and encourage her to find life beyond Irans borders, a decision that proves both a blessing and curse. An unique window onto a crucial chapter of 20th century history, Persepolis is graphically engaging with its black-and-white, bold lines and feeling of repressed energy, fit to burst. The emotional content is so strong that after awhile, one almost forgets the film is a cartoon. Satrapi co-wrote the screenplay and co-directed the film along with animator Vincent Paronnaud. --Tom Keogh Stills from Persepolis (click for larger image) Beyond Persepolis On DVD Paperback Soundtrack CD

The classic science fiction novel by H.G. Wells becomes this big-budget adventure directed by the author's great-grandson Simon Wells. Guy Pearce stars as Alexander Hartdegen, a scientist, professor, and inventor in 1895 New York City who believes that time travel is possible. The sudden and unexpected death of his fiancée spurs Alexander to build a time machine, which he hopes to use in an effort to change the past. When he is unable to change the past, Alexander hurls himself more than 800,000 years into the future, seeking answers about the nature of time, but instead encountering a dystopian world where humanity has divided up into two races, the peaceful Eloi and the subterranean Morlocks. Befriending the beautiful Eloi woman Mara (pop singer Samantha Mumba), Alexander must set out to save her from the underground world of the Morlocks when she is captured by them. Along the way, he is aided by Vox (Orlando Jones), a bio-mechanical being from the 21st century. Ultimately, Alexander makes a shocking discovery about the true nature of the Eloi and Morlocks and decides that the only way to change the future is to alter the present. Due to exhaustion, director Wells was briefly replaced during the last few weeks of production by Gore Verbinski, director of The Mexican (2001). The Time Machine co-stars Jeremy Irons and Mark Addy.
